High Grove Resort – an update
I can’t believe it’s almost a year since I wrote my first Florida guide article about High Grove but it is so I thought I’d better up date it as a few things have changed, all for the better I might add.
High Grove is a first class resort development of 3, 4 and 5 bedroom homes that was completed in late 2005. It is situated in one of the most convenient locations in the Disney area right at the junction of H192 and H27 making it so easy to get to all the theme parks or to venture further a field to the Gulf or the space coasts. I am biased of course as this is where we bought our home way back in November 2003 when High Grove was nothing more than a giant sand pit. The facilities on offer, the great location and the quality and design of the beautiful homes are what make High Grove such a great choice as your vacation destination.
All the homes on High Grove are built in the Mediterranean style with whitewashed walls and red tile roofs that were until recently something of a rarity in the area. The whole development has been planned to allow plenty of space around the homes and many owners have now added extra plants and shrubs by their pool areas, as these and the landscaping in the communal areas have matured it has added to the upmarket feel of the whole development. The palm trees by the gated entrance are maturing beautifully and as you approach the development they provide a glimpse of what awaits you inside.
As you drive through the gates the clubhouse, is directly in front of you. Open from 8am to 8pm daily (except for Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Years Day) it is a great place to meet other families who are staying at High Grove. The staff members are all very friendly and will provide advice on the surrounding area. At the front desk you can now buy stamps so that you can send a postcard to your friends back home as well as various souvenirs such as embroidered T shirts to remind you of your stay. There are leaflets for all the local attractions and contact details for the local shuttle bus service. Another new addition is the video games room with several arcade games and pinball machines that can be played using tokens bought for a $1or so from the token machine. The full size pool table has now moved into the games area where you will also find a foosball table and wide screen TV along with a selection of board games and a couple of card tables. The comfortable sofas are now in the large foyer where you will also find the free coffee that is available throughout the day. The foyer is where you will find the media area, here there are a couple of computers with free internet access for guests to use (there is a printer and a fax machine at reception that can be used for a small charge). The whole of the clubhouse has wireless internet access so that you can use your own laptop if you prefer. The gym hasn’t changed in the last year it is still in the same place with a running machine, exercise bike and a cross trainer. Outside there is a large pool with ample deck area and sun beds to catch some rays as well as a heated spa, inside there are locker rooms and showers with a good supply of towels.
There are various events organised throughout the year for homeowners and guests and some of the recent ones have included an “ice cream social” where you could build your own sundae for $1, free facials that were organised by a local beautician and were very popular plus a recent Halloween costume competition.
All the homes in the community have their own private pools and many also have spas, games rooms and internet access. The homes are all furnished to a very high standard with lots of owners adding those little touches that really make you feel at home. Whichever home you choose for your stay I am sure that you will have a great time and be eager to return to High Grove again and again.
