IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth
They call it ' an incredible symphony of lasers, music and fireworks. ' But for me, I think ‘Illuminations: Reflections of Earth’ is the ultimate firework and laser show, and nothing I have ever seen comes close to beating or matching it. It is full of symbolism, and has a theme and a plot. No matter how often I watch it, I always get the same sense of awe and wonder as the sky lights up in a blaze of exploding stars.
The magic starts right from the moment we are welcomed, by Jim Cummings (the voice of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger), with these special words:
' Good evening, on behalf of Walt Disney World, the place where dreams come true, we welcome all of you to Epcot and World Showcase. We' ve gathered here tonight, around the fire, as people of all lands have gathered for thousands and thousands of years before us; to share the light and to share a story. An amazing story, as old as time itself but still being written. And though each of us has our own individual stories to tell, a true adventure emerges when we bring them all together as one. We hope you enjoy our story tonight; Reflections of Earth. '
It’s as if the whole park is holding its breath, waiting for something to happen, something we know will be unique, emotional and uplifting. No matter how many times I see it, I still get goose bumps when the lights dim, the torches are lit and the show begins. With that first burst of fireworks cascading down from high in the sky, and with the music swelling, you can feel the vibrations through your body, as the sounds and sights engulf you.
Then the globe lights up and moves slowly across the lake, spinning dramatically and gliding over the still waters of the lake, with ever changing pictorial images which celebrate our human diversity and the spirit of mankind. My favourite part has to be when the globe, that twinkling steel sphere, opens up like a lotus flower, and from its centre a gigantic torch shoots fire 40ft into the air.
Starting at 9. 00 pm, it has to be one of the most spectacular firework and laser shows, with music, laser lights, and stirring music which pays tribute to the nations of the world. It is not to be missed, and is the climax of every Epcot day - no matter how tired we are, or how aching our feet may be we just never miss this show. Rita Fraser
