Jungle Cruise
The Jungle Cruise is one of Disney’s original rides and is never the same twice due to the ongoing narration from the boat’s captain. Some skippers are more enthusiasts than others and give it “all they’ve got” and you are made to feel that you are important members of the crew. Whereas, with a few cast members, you may feel that they are just going through the motions (you have to remember that if it is late in the day they have probably been through the same script at least twenty times! ). On the whole they are usually first-rate and a good laugh can be had by all.
As you wait in line look for the chalkboard with the names of boats and people who have gone missing. As you board your boat you will observe an uncanny resemblance to the boat in the film “The African Queen”.
There are plenty of corny jokes from your skipper and an abundance of audio-animatronic animals from apes to elephants, lions to hippos and also some wild natives. You will travel through three different continents up the Amazon, Nile and Congo Rivers and you should be prepared for some surprises along the way. You will see the “front side” of water and also the “back side” of water as you pass underneath a waterfall, all the time your skipper is entertaining you with their hilarious tales of danger. Watch out for the elephants, you may want to duck down if you do not want to get wet…………. just kidding!
Look for the “Hidden Mickey” in the cave Temple. There are three plates arranged to look like Mickey’s head and ears.
One time when we were on the cruise, the skipper let one of the young children aboard the boat take a turn steering it, although I am pretty sure that these boats are not free floating vessels and actually run on rails!
The Jungle Cruise is a Fastpass attraction which means you can collect a ticket to avoid having to stand in long lines. You will receive a ticket from the Fastpass machine, after inserting your park pass, which will give you an hour’s time slot in which to return to the ride. Meanwhile, you are free to visit other attractions, dine or shop anywhere within the parks or even go back to your villa for a swim if there is enough time. Be aware though that you cannot get another Fastpass for at least another hour or until you have been on the ride.
Try to visit this attraction again after dark. Not only will the lines be shorter but you will also get a whole new perspective of the ride. Have fun and “Happy Cruising! ”
