Jurassic Park IOA
It was not until I visited Islands of Adventure with my brother and niece that I really appreciated this park. This was in early December and the parks were quite due to most people rushing around getting ready for Christmas. On my previous visits this park had been very crowded with long queues for everything.
This particular visit the weather was hot and they were intent on getting wet! We decided to spend some time in Jurassic Park.
We headed straight for the Jurassic Park River Adventure where there was only a fifteen minute wait. You are invited to tour Jurassic Park and you ride in boats on a water route.
Your tour starts at Ultrasaur Lagoon, where supposedly gentle beasts roam. Then you pass Stegosaur Springs and your boat starts heading for Hadrosaur Cove.
Then an escaped Hadrosaur explodes from the water and bumps into the boat. Instead of heading for Hadrosaur Cove you are going to another area of the park, you are in trouble and no one can save you now! You go up the ramp and are attacked again and again eventually you escape but it is down an 85 foot drop, you get very wet!
If the queue is short and you enjoyed the ride you might as well go it again as you are wet anyway. I think but am not certain that there are some hot air driers nearby.
We decided to enjoy the sun to dry out and joined the queue for the Pteranodon Flyers. The wait for this is often an hour and for an 88 second ride I am not sure it is worth it. The ride is designed for children and the seats swing front-to back and side-to-side. The Track twists and turns at a high velocity allowing riders a great view of all of Jurassic Park and it also helps dry you out!
If you have young ones be sure to visit Camp Jurassic. This is a great playground for the young and young at heart. Here there are rope bridges, caves, water guns, places to run, places to climb as well as places to hide. I think this is one of the best play areas for children in the Orlando theme parks.
We finished our visit to this part of the park at the Jurassic Park Discovery Centre. This is an interactive museum type place where there are exhibits that show you the history and habits of the dinosaurs.
You can watch dino eggs hatch as well as performing fossil exploration. It probably is more of an attraction for the under 12s but our girls enjoyed it. It was also nice to be away from the sun and the noise of the park.
If you do go to Islands of Adventure be sure to visit Jurassic Park you will enjoy it.
