Manny’s Chophouse Revisited
We last wrote about the wonderful food at Manny’s in 2006 and thought we would update our thoughts on this restaurant.
It is now a firm favourite with our two boys – we aim to try a new restaurant each time we visit Florida, but wherever we try, we just have to have at least one visit to Mannys (and last trip we managed 4! ), as after 3 years and 8 visits to Florida, we just can’t find a place to beat it for quality and price.
Based just past Walmart in Haines City off highway 27, you could easily miss the restaurant unless you knew it was there. The first thing you will almost always see is a full car park! From the moment the place opens (4. 00pm during the week) until it closes, there is a constant stream of people going in to sample the fabulous food. The décor is understated, tables have paper tablecloths, and the food is sublime. Their baby back ribs and steaks are famous around the area and many locals frequent the place (a sure sign that it is worth a visit). Meals come with an endless salad bowl (huge and sooo tasty) and rolls with cinnamon butter (an acquired taste, but our boys love them). The steaks are superb and cannot be beaten on price.
You can ring ahead to have your name put on a list, as there are no table reservations, but you can skip some of the inevitable queue by doing this in advance of your trip. At popular times (up to 7. 00pm during happy hour – when two for one alcoholic drinks are served) there can be people queuing out of the door, so be prepared for a wait – however the food is definitely worth the wait!
They have recently opened another Mannys in Lake Wales, which we have not yet tried, but understand that it is as popular as the original Mannys.
Mannys have special offers during the week and this Easter we sampled their 2 for 1 fajitas on Wednesdays – there is a choice of chicken or steak fajitas (or a mixture of both). We loved the meal and there was no skimping on the meat – and the best part was the bill at the end of the meal –fajitas for 4, endless salad bowl , bread rolls and soft drinks for all, came to less than $35!
The website is www. mannyschophouse. com and it is worth checking out the specials for the day you plan to visit (for example, kids eat free from the kids menu on Mondays and Tuesdays)
Mannys is still a firm favourite with the whole family and is the restaurant that the boys are guaranteed to ask to visit during our stay. Definitely worth a visit, and once sampled, we are sure that, like us, you will want to go back again and again.
