MIami
There are some amazing places to visit in Florida. Most people head for the hustle and bustle of Disney and Orlando area, but around 4 hours drive from Orlando is Miami and its amazing art deco area and World famous beaches.
If flying from the UK Miami is a good option in the peak season as flights tend to be cheaper than flying direct into Orlando. Why not stop in Miami before heading up to Orlando.
If you have never been to Miami before you will love the World famous beaches on offer, from Fort Lauderdale to South Beach and it’s Art Deco area. Spend time just watching the World go by or spend time in one of the numerous café bars along the golden sands. Fort Lauderdale has miles upon miles of golden sands and plenty of hotels to choose from, but make sure you book your hotel before you arrive as the area can get very busy and we have turned up before and not been able to find any accommodation on the beach area.
Expect to pay between $100 – 250 per night for a hotel in the Fort Lauderdale and South Beach areas. This will be dependent on whether it is 3* or 5*. Most rooms can sleep a family of 4 as most have two double beds.
If you have a car why not take a trip down to the everglades. The Everglades are made up of large swamps and are part of the Everglades National Park, one of the best National parks in the USA. Here you will be able to go on air-boat rides along the wetlands and see many types of crocodile and Alligator.
For the younger children there are plenty of activities for them. Why not take a fast speedboat across the bay or along the beach. If the weather is not very good there is a large aquarium at Key Biscayne. The Aquarium houses many different seas creatures, from Killer whales, dolphins, sea lions and manatees.
Being 4 hours drive From Orlando really does make Miami a great place to stay when going to Florida for 2 weeks. Why not spend a few days at the end or beginning of your holiday and make the most of the great beaches before flying home. Not only that it could save you money as flying into Miami is generally cheaper in the peak UK holiday periods.
