MICKEY’S NOT SO SCARY HALLOWEEN PARTY 2008

Universal Studios was the first Park to celebrate Halloween with their Halloween Horror Nights. This was marketed toward teenagers and young adults and the idea was to really scare their guests with monsters, vampires and other terrifying surprises.

This was a separate, ticketed event and the park was transformed at night from its regular theme into a ghost town. It was recommended that small children or nervous adults did not attend.

Seeing the crowds that Universal drew Disney decided to put on their own event and have a Halloween Party aimed at the younger children (and adults as well of course! ). Their party was called Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and has been a great success over recent years.

On certain nights during the months of September and October, the Magic Kingdom is transformed into a Halloween experience, suitable for all ages. As Disney limit the amount of tickets allocated on any one night Halloween Night itself sells out very quickly. Like Universal this is a separate, ticketed event.

This year’s first event started on September 5th and the Party officially runs from 7pm – 12 midnight. However in previous years we have only had to show out Party tickets and we have been allowed to enter the Park at 5. 00pm. As you enter you will be given a wrist band and a trick-or-treat bag.

During the evening you are able to fill your bag with lollypops, chocolates, Oh Henry, Snickers, Tootsie Roll, Skittles, and SweetTarts.

Although some decorations and exhibits are not displayed until the party begins, others are on display for all of September and October whenever you go to the Park.

. If you begin at the back of Mickey’s Toontown Fair, you can stroll through Alice and Mad Hatter’s Treat Party.

If you walk the trail to Tomorrowland, you will see a number of props and characters, and there are lots of photo opportunities. Do not miss the sweets that are being given out in this area.

You get a great photo opportunity in Fantasyland where you can have your picture taken in front of Cinderella’s glass coach.

It will come as no surprise that Cast Members working at the Haunted Mansion also get a makeover. As well as their usual, sombre costume, their faces are made up to look ghoulish. Also, a “spirit from beyond” takes centre stage on the lawn of the mansion and entertains guests with wonderful stories of her life, both living and dead. A low lying fog is over the gravestones to give them a spookier look that usual.

There are a couple of Dance Parties held during each evening. One is at Ariel’s Grotto in Fantasyland and another at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in Tomorrowland. We usually stop during the evening for a burger at Cosmic Rays Café so can watch the Dance Party at the same time.

On the Castle stage is the Villain’s Mix and Mingle show. You can see some of Disney’s greatest bad-guys and girls dance and rant and try to impress you with their evilness

Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade is the highlight of the evening. Shown twice each night (8:15 & 10:30), this is not to be missed. You need to find your viewing spot before the start as the Headless Horseman makes a mad dash along the parade route to the cheers of the crowd. If you are not there in time, you will miss him.

The later Parade tends to be the quieter one as many of the little ones have fallen asleep. However if you go to the early one, when the second parade is on you can get on all the rides very quickly.

Not all the rides are open for the Party but this is a list of those that are in 2008:

Swiss Family Treehouse

Pirates of the Caribbean

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Splash Mountain

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

The Haunted Mansion

Peter Pan’s Flight

Tomorrowland Indy Speedway
