MR KONGS CHINESE RESTAURANT

With a chef that has cooked for the Japanese Pavilion in Epcot and an owner that has an individual attitude to restaurant dining -Mr Kongs is onto a winning formula -great service and fantastic food.

Another hidden gem along the chain restaurant laden 192 Mr Kongs is easily missed unless you have your eyes ready to spot it. Hidden back from the road close to Summer Bay on west 192 it is an unassuming looking place from the outside but do not be fooled -once inside you will be met by the very friendly owner George -who-if you have been before will almost certainly remember you -and if you haven’ t visited the restaurant previously -will still give you a warm and inviting greeting.

The decor is simple and the restaurant is quiet so you can hold a conversation with your table guests without having to raise your voice.

George is on hand to advise on meal selection. On our first visit we ordered like we would back home in the UK -several dishes plus rice and other bits . Georges eyes popped out as he exclaimed “thats a lot “

We told him it was fine but boy he was right the portions weren’ t enormous but there was enough for us to eat and enjoy the food as it should be enjoyed without the feeling of being overfull that sometimes comes with Chinese food in the UK.

There are dishes you can only get in the restaurant so for a truly different experience eat in . We had the Pu Pu Platter as our starter -a selection of egg rolls, crab rangoon , BBQ ribs, chicken fingers that were really meaty , beef teriyaki and shrimp . The plate was delivered with no signs of oil or grease and the food was delicious -it is ideal to share between 2 . Another dish I would recommend is the Shrimp lettuce wraps -very fresh and crisp.

For my main course I had shrimp Lo Mein-soft noodles . Plenty of large shrimps and noodles in a delicious sauce whilst John had the house special curry that he struggled to finish -in fact he couldn’ t manage all the rice that accompanied it.

Several of the dishes can be made to suit your taste buds and be prepared hot or mild and if there is a hot & spicy one you fancy they will tone it down if you wish.

The owner is always willing to talk about the food and how it is cooked if you are interested or will answer questions about what is in the dishes.

If you visit their website you will find a discount coupon you can use, recipes and a little bit that tells you something about George and his philosophy about giving back to others. He donates 3% of his profits each month to charities so you know that by going to Mr Kongs not only will you get great Chinese food in a wonderful friendly setting but your $$ will be helping others too.

Mr Kongs is open for lunch time specials from 11. 30-4. 00pm.

There is a take out menu as they will deliver and as George used to run China 1 at Champions Gate he knows where the subdivisions are.
