NASA Kennedy Space Centre

The NASA Kennedy space centre is located on the east coast of Florida near the World famous Cocoa Beach. The drive the space centre is around 1 hour from the centre of Orlando. Getting there could not be easier as the main freeway takes you directly there.

The area is full of history about space travel and is where they launch the Space Shuttle aircraft. These can often be seen from various vantage points around the area. In the Space centre is the astronaut Hall of Fame where you can find out information on all of the people who have been into space. This is located at the visitors centre. All the activities at the space centre are normally included in the price of the admission ticket.

If you are into the history of space travel you will not be disappointed, you can get up close and personal with all the types of space craft, including the Apollo and space shuttle. My favourite part was the walkthrough of the space shuttle itself.

In 2007 they added a new ride called ‘Shuttle Launch Experience’, this gives you a feel of what it is like to go into space and experience take off. They spent a fair bit of money on this attraction and it does not dissapoint.

You have to do the main guided tour to really appreciate how large the area is. The tour is an ideal way to get information that would not be available if you did the drive yourself. The tour itself lasts around 2 hours.

Located in the main area outside the visitor centre is the astronaut memorial, dedicated to all those who lost their lives in the pursuit of space travel.

One of the more popular areas Is the rocket garden, this has original rockets that were used to go into space, these include the Apollo, Gemini and Mercury. There are some great opportunities in the space centre to get some great photos, just make sure you have enough room in your memory to take them!

Overall I would rate the NASA Kennedy space centre as one of the better days out away from Orlando, it is easy to get to and has something for all the family. Being only an hour from Orlando makes it an ideal location to spend a day out. Get there early as it can get very busy in the peak summer months.
