Our First Ever Visit to Florida - Part 3

Our boarding passes in our hand we entered the departure lounge with little fuss the security Pre 9/11 was much more relaxed your hand luggage went through the scanner and you had to walk through the metal detector but it was very much more relaxed than it is today.

Now the waiting in the departure lounge is probably my least favourite part of any holiday as I find it all rather boring so what to do how to make that clock wind down so that you can get on board your plane.

With the kids being there is not so bad especially with them being young the like to look at the huge planes out of the large plate glass windows, there is always more than one Virgin plane so you spend time which Virgin plane your actually going to fly on and as they all have names you can compare whether you have been on them before.

Well that a bit of time used up but what now well a walk down the terminal to check out the departure board checking to see if your flight is on time and what gate you will be departing from that’s few minutes used up a few more visits over the few hours you are waiting will definitely be required hopefully you don’t get the dreaded notice at the side of your flight “DELAYED”.

Next, it’s a trip to the Duty-Free with the wife where she will try out every form of Perfume known to man most of which I have never heard of but this uses up the all-important waiting time although it’s not long before the kids start to get bored and need some distractions.

As we had an early flight we decided to have some breakfast and we opted for the traditional cooked breakfast route although a little expensive in the airport but what the heck we're all on holiday aren’t we.

A leisurely peruse through the clothing outlets and last minute purchases from boots or something to read from WH Smiths and its time to check the departure board once more and this time there a gate number for your flight now we are making progress.

A wander down to the gate and their loads of people already there waiting but soon the flight attendants are calling people onto the plane in seat row numbers, an excited wait but it’s not long before your seat row numbers are called and you make your way forward to the desk
