Our First Ever Visit to Florida - Part 5
The pilot throttle up the engines they make such a sound our youngest son never really liked this bit and to this day in his twenties he still doesn’t like this bit and soon after your hurling down the runway and to this day I still wonder how such a huge aircraft can get off the ground.
The nose of the aeroplane starts to lift and seconds later you’re in the air you get that weird feeling as the plane climbs hard the kids all look a little worried as they feel the air pressure change and the plane climbs steeply.
Moments later the plane levels out and the kids’ faces change gone are the worries of the takeoff and now it’s the excitement of the flight that takes over when the film going to start Dad they as because in those days there was no choice in the films you watched everyone watched the same film.
Soon the flight attendants are working their way down the aisle handing out drinks and the all-important earphones and adapter for your seat, the kids were given a little satchel on boarding the plane to join the kids club inside which were a number of goodies such as wax crayon and colouring pads to keep them busy throughout the flight.
An announcement comes over the tannoy system telling everyone that the film will be starting very soon and that a meal will be served once the film has started, everyone is fiddling with their headsets trying to get them to work.
Hurray, the film starts and the kids are all quiet, not long after the air stewardesses appeared with a heated trolley and started handing out trays and heated meals, “would you like red or white wine” I was asked. Now, this was a first for me offered wine on a flight knows it seems normal but in those days it was very much new.
The food on the Virgin flight was much better than on other short-haul flights we had taken before and the service was way superior after the food you could sit back and relax and watch the remainder of the film if you wanted a drink including an alcoholic drink you could simply get up out of your seat and go to the galley and get your own yep a free bar now that was something!
