Dining at Planet Hollywood
I love movies so was really happy on our last trip to visit and dine at Planet Hollywood in West Side at Downtown Disney. We planned our visit after spending the day at Typhoon Lagoon, which is directly opposite Downtown Disney. We took a change of clothes with us so we could shower and change when the park closed.
We asked for seating on the top floor as the ‘giant ball’ houses different levels, with props hanging from the ceiling all the way down through the restaurant.
The props and memorabilia that surrounded us included the bus from Speed and the suit from Tron. Also displayed were several larger props including the motorbikes from Passenger 57 and Officer and a Gentleman. We could not find labels for all the props but the staff are really helpful and will tell you the film a prop is from if you ask.
For starters we ordered a couple of dishes so we could try as much as possible. We ordered a portion of potato skins and some excellent Texas Tostados, which are mini tortillas topped with BBQ chicken, onions, cheese and sour cream.
The main courses were superb. My wife ordered LA Lasagna which comes with an unusual twist - French pasta tubes filled with the Bolognese sauce and Ricotta cheese - and was delicious. I ordered BBQ Pork Ribs which were meaty and just melted in your mouth. As we had fries with lunch I asked if I could swap the fries that came with the meal for cheesy mash which they happily did for no extra charge.
From the children’s menu we ordered spaghetti and meatballs and chicken tenders. The menu also allows you to order milk which was good as it meant the children were not drinking soda all day.
When it came to desert I had to bow out but I had managed to eat most of the skins and Tostados! However, both the kids and my wife could manage some more. Our son loves the cheesecakes we get in Orlando so had a strawberry cheesecake and our girls love chocolate so they managed double chocolate brownie which was massive. My wife had her usual key lime pie. I did manage a spoonful of each…… much to their disgust as I didn’t want desert and all were delicious.
This is another restaurant that we will be visiting again next trip.
