Best Water Ride Ever - Popeye
I love water rides and this one at Island of Adventure is the best of the bunch by far, they say you will get soak they lied…………you will get soaked through to the skin but is such brilliant fun.
The ride is based upon Popeye and his rivalry with his arch enemy Bluto. Each raft holds 12 people, and in the middle of the raft is a place to store all your possessions. A great tip is take your shoe & socks off and place them in the middle as well.
When you are all strap in to your raft, the ride starts, and boy what a start it is. You go over a steep drop with straight away allows water to rush over the side soaking you in your seats, you then proceed down the ride with water flowing rapidly around you and into the raft. There are steep curves where you throne around all the time water gushing over the sides getting you completely wet from head to toe.
Half way round the raft slows down and you think great a rest-bit from the water, no you are wrong as you pass by the brilliantly named “Me Ship, the Olive” where kids have access to directional water cannons which they can fire at you – and these are free of charge. Also there are crates which they can fill with water and then drop the contents onto your raft, as proven by me by getting soaking wet from one of these.
You are then winched up through Bluto’s ship wash, with jets of water from above and from the sides there is no escaping the water jets. Your raft is then drop down the other and the soaking starts again.
This ride is very fast and very wet, and is a great way of cooling down and get refreshed on the hot Orlando afternoons, and just one of the many reasons to re-visit Florida time and time again.
We rode Popeye & Bluto ride around 3pm and found no queues, and was able to stay on the first time and just ride again, however for the 3rd time we did have to come and go back through the queues however there wasn’t any so we went straight back on.
