PRODUCTION CENTRAL -UNIVERSAL STUDIOS
Universal Orlando Resort started with the Universal Studios Florida Theme Park in June 1990, known by many back in those days as " the little park that couldn’ t. " It did not have a good opening or good press and spent many years regrouping and changing its attractions. These days it is a park visited by millions and the excitement starts as you step into the Park.
As you enter Universal Studios Production Central is the first section you will experience.
With Shrek 4-D and Jimmy Neutron’ s Nicktoon Blast this is fabulous place to start for both children and the adults.
Production Central aims to and succeeds in giving you the feel of a Hollywood studio. At the " The Bone Yard" many well-known bands play at various times of the year such as Mardi Gras.
At Jimmy Neutron’ s Nicktoon Blast you can board your rocket and blast off as Jimmy Neutron. Boy Genius takes you on a wild chase through the worlds of your favourite nicktoons. You will see SpongeBob SquarePants and the Rugrats.
You will exit through a shop called Nickstuff after riding Jimmy Neutron. Almost all merchandise is related to the Nicktoon’ s Characters.
At Shrek 4-D you join Shrek, Donkey and Princess Fiona in 4-D Ogrevision as they come " face to ghost" with Lord Faquaad. Lord Faquaad has just returned from the after life! You can see what happened between the original Shrek movie and Shrek 2. Because this attraction has proved so popular Universal has added a second theatre in an effort to shorten the waiting time.
Just like the Nickstuff store, you will exit the Shrek 4-D show through Shrek’ s Ye Olde Souvenir Shoppe with t-shirts, hats, pins and much more
Both Jimmy Neutron and Shrek are Universal Express Attractions. Unlike Disney there is a charge for these but I am not sure what it is because we have never purchased any.
Monster’s café is also in this section and we often eat here after going on Jimmy Neutrons and Shrek or otherwise at the end of our visit. This is a great themed counter service restaurant and we can recommend the Pepperoni Pizza and Rotisserie Chicken. If you prefer something lighter they also serve soups and salads.
Be sure to visit the Universal Studios Store. This is the largest store in the park with everything Universal from clothes to toys. This is a great place to get your souvenirs before you leave the park.
If you need film, memory cards, batteries or park photos these can be found at On Location. This is the only store where you can download your digital pictures to a CD on a Kodak Picture Maker.
Our girls never leave the park without a visit to Studio Sweets for rice krispy treats! They also sell lots of different sweets/candy.
If you like a bargain drop into It’ s A Wrap before you leave. This store is located next to the park exit and has quite a lot of discounted merchandise.
