Rainforest Cafe (6)
A recent visit to London where we dined in the Rainforest Café has prompted me to write this article. Whilst we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience in London, there is something special about the Rainforest Café in Downtown Disney.
We have been going to Florida for our annual holidays for many years now and always mark the beginning and sadly the end of our holidays with a visit to Rainforest Café.
The restaurant can be seen from all around Downtown Disney as it has an erupting volcano as a land mark. The food is excellent. It is a little expensive compared to other establishments however the menu is varied, the courses are generous and despite always being extremely busy the food is generally quick to arrive.
There are two rooms, the Gorilla room and the Elephant room. The Gorilla room is as it suggests full of animated gorillas and of course there are elephants on the Elephant room. There is a large aquarium at the entrance to the restaurant and others inside containing many exotic species of fish which will keep young and old entertained whilst waiting for food. at the At regular intervals throughout the dining experience the animals become animated in true Disney style as a tropical storm approaches complete with thunder, lightening and rainfall. The elephants trumpet and the gorillas pound their chests during the storm.
On arrival at the restaurant you are given a time to return when a table will be available. At busy times this wait can be two hours so it is useful to go to the restaurant well before you need to eat to ascertain the waiting time and book in if appropriate. We always check in on arrival at Downtown Disney and then use the waiting time to enjoy all that the Market Place has to offer.
There is also a large themed gift shop at the Rainforest Café selling a variety of items such as T shirts, cuddly toys, cups mugs, key rings to name but a few.
If you are not hungry but still want to sample the atmosphere there is a bar area where you sit under a giant mushroom on stools which look like the back legs of zebras, giraffes and antelopes to name but a few. Here you can sample exotic cocktails or fresh fruit smoothies.
Compared to London the Rainforest Café in Downtown Disney is bigger and appears to be more spacious. Both restaurants are very busy however the one in Downtown Disney seems to have the capacity to cope better.
Definitely worth a visit.
