Florida Guide > Dining
On a recent trip to Florida Mall, the adults were all shopped out and decided a refreshment stop was in order. The kids had already eaten in the food court where there was a choice of Chinese, Japanese, Taco Bell, Subway, Chicken Now etc and all could be eaten in the central eating area.
This was fine for a quick snack but it had been a tiring day and we adults decided we fancied a cool beer and a bit of peace and quiet and chose Ruby Tuesday at the mall entrance. As we walked in and were seated we passed a large salad bar with all sorts of raw salad ingredients and pre-made salads such as potato salads, Waldorf salads, coleslaws etc plus lots of different toppings and dressings. A vegetarian could happily enjoy a meal here.
As it was a late lunch we chose to share Tempura green beans and Coconut shrimp shareables between four of us and had a trip to the salad bar each. One member of the party couldn’t resist the baby back ribs – I would love to be able to recommend them but nobody else got a look in! While we were waiting for our food to arrive they served us some hot savoury cheese biscuits (scones) which were delicious. All the food was hot, tasty and fresh; the salads were delicious too. Excellently accompanied with a good choice of foreign or imported beers.
The choice is extensive – shareables included a wonderful sounding shrimp fondue, Asian dumplings and quesadilla, crispy flatbreads with various toppings and lump crab cakes. For a larger meal, there’s a selection of seafood, chicken and steaks, pasta dishes etc. There’s also a menu just introduced of very tasty looking burgers.
The prices are very reasonable as is typical in Florida. The salad bowl is $8. 99 for a plate as full as you like and extras to add are $5. 99 upwards. Entrees are from $12 up to $19 for a fabulous sounding shellfish trio of jumbo lump crab cake, broiled lobster tail and grilled jumbo shrimp with garlic scampi butter.
Our bill was $85 for five of us including a beer each and the service was excellent. The surroundings were very pleasant and all together we decided that a return visit was highly likely. The children came to find us and were more than a little disappointed that they had opted for their own choice – ah well, with age comes experience! !
