Spiderman the Ride - Universal Studios Islands of Adventure
The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman is located in Universal Islands of Adventure. The ride is based on a state of the art 4-D experience that totally immerses the riders in a visual and physical onslaught from start to finish. If you have not been on this ride before I would seriously recommend it!
Having not really been a fan of the 3-D style rides and preferring the roller-coaster style on offer I was a bit dubious of the intention of a 4-D ride. I must admit I was also taken back by the age of some of the riders themselves, some as young as 4 years old. This ride was bound to be not as good as I had imagined.
The entrance to the ride itself is set back into the scene of comic book land and as such the only thing that tells you it is the Spiderman Ride is the sign above the entrance door. They have made you think you are entering the daily bugle offices that are set in lower Manhattan, New York. If you hit the ride at peak times or during the summer months the wait can be up to 45 minutes, however this never feels very long as there is always something to look at and the queue is always moving so never feels like you are not getting there. If you have ever watched the films or read the cartoons the set is very well put together and in great Universal fashion has great attention to detail.
Once at the front of the queue you are ushered into 8 seat cars (4 front and 4 back) where you are then locked down before setting off into New York. As you leave you are then sent radio messages from the police to keep you informed on what is going on. Safe as to say it is not too long before you are embroiled in chase after chase with Spiderman trying to catch the likes of Dr Octopus & the Green Goblin.
What sets the ride out with any others in Florida is the fact you are constantly moving and visually bombarded with visual effects right out of the top draw. As the ride is 4-D you are also experiencing heat, water and wind along the way. The ride really does make you think you are actually falling 20 stories when in fact you are not moving anywhere at all!
Our young lad loved this ride so much he wanted to go back on it straight away. This is great if you are not too disorientated. The best option is to go away and then come back later in the day after your body has recovered! The ride really does overload you with special effects. I would definitely go back on a second time as when I did I saw bits I had missed the first time round.
All in all I would say The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman really must be in your top 10 rides in Florida. Because it is family friendly it really is great because the whole family can ride it without people having to wait with the younger ones. As a 4-D ride it is certainly the best in Florida and well worth going on as soon as you arrive in Islands of Adventure.
