Thrilling rides at Seaworld
Visiting Seaworld does not just mean looking at a great collection of fascinating creatures and watching some brilliant shows. There are actually two thrilling rides – one is the ‘white knuckle’ Kraken and the other is the less ‘white knuckle’, but still very thrilling all the same, ‘Journey to Atlantis’.
Kraken is without doubt one of the most exhilarating rides in Orlando, and should only be attempted by those who have no medical complaints or injuries, are not pregnant and by those who have not just eaten a large meal… It is a floorless ride and has several stunning drops and turns and inversions and three underground dives. If you can bear to open your eyes at the very top, at the start of the ride, you will be rewarded with a fantastic view over the entire park and for miles around.
The queue for Kraken never gets too long, so fitting it in several times in one visit to the park is quite possible. It really is quite an intense ride. If your normal idea of a thrilling ride is the Teacups in the Magic Kingdom, or Big Thunder Mountain if you are feeling really daring, then Kraken is probably not to your taste.
The other thrilling ride at Seaworld, Journey to Atlantis, offers a completely different sort of thrill. It is a mix of roller coaster, water ride and log flume contained within a mythical city. There are columns, arches, pediments and domes rising above a lagoon and a small white-washed fishing village. The design of the main temple is based on Knossos, which is an existing Greek palace. You ‘sail’ through various themed scenes before plunging down the steep slope and splashing into the water below. At this point it is possible to get wet, and first time riders breathe a sigh of relief that they weren’t soaked. Then…. . the ride continues and a second opportunity to get soaked comes along and can do an excellent job of soaking you through to the skin.
People who are not brave or adventurous enough to try Journey to Atlantis can wait and watch the long drop of the boats. There are some water squirting machines positioned around the curve which the boats travel along at the foot of the drop which, for a quarter, you can aim at the unsuspecting occupants of a boat who think they have got away without getting wet!
