Tropical fruit winery - St Petersburg
Tropical Fruit Winery- now that is intriguing and somewhere you must visit.
Florida Orange Groves Winery is in St Petersburg Florida and has been continuously owned and run by three generations of the same family. They started by packing and shipping the citrus fruit and then opened a fresh squeezed orange juice and gift shop. Around 1993, they started experimenting with wines made from the citrus fruit and realised that they had a winner on their hands. The wine was launched in 1997 They have at least forty three award winning wines to offer.
The owners have persuaded their son to leave his position as Vice President of a bank to join them in this flourishing business so for the time being, the future of this family orientated business looks secure.
So what did they dream up? well, how about Key Limon or Hurricane White Sangria or Mango Momma (three of the nicest in my opinion). Then there are wines made by the "Champagne" method; cranberry, grapefruit, tangerine and blueberry.
There are 3 ports; Flamingo, Mango and Black and Blue and the veggie makes its appearance in a carrot and a tomato wine.
Do you like smoothies? they have these flavours to choose between mocha; orange cream; banana and one named Cola Polada. Now you can get cheaper wines in the supermarket but what fun to offer your guests something so different. Or even serve them without comment! Your guests are sure to be intrigued - as these speciality wines can be manufactured from up to bottle nine pounds of fruit they are bursting with flavour.
There are now over 30 branches of Florida Orange Groves Wineries spread across Florida and you may even have spotted them at The Epcot Food and Wine Festival which is held annually. They are the only citrus wines to be accepted at this prestigious event.
Naturally, it s so nice to try before you buy and wine tastings are held between 9. 30 and 5 p. m. except on a Sunday when they happen between 12. 30pm to 5pm. Best make sure that you have a nominated driver in your party so you can enjoy the experience!
You can also browse around their gift shop which has many unusual presents and souvenirs.
