Universal Studios, a Dad's view
The alternative to the Disney parks are the excellent Universal Studios 2 parks, the Universal Studios park is one of my favourites because it has in my view more grown up rides than some of the Disney parks.
The Universal Studios Park was the original and only Universal Park until 1999 when the new park Islands of Adventure were built which has the famous Hulk roller coaster and is heavily themed on the Marvel super heroes
You enter the Universal Studios through some huge arches that really set the scene for this park which really does look like a movie set in many areas. First you come across the area called production central where the rides are more suited to the younger children in your party with rides such as Jimmy Neutrons, Nick Toon blast and the popular Shrek4D.
Next along the street is Twister which is a creation of the hit movie some years back, you enter a sleepy town and a storm slowly begins with rain and thunder and lightening, this moves on the a tornado hitting the town and includes some surprises, this is a great attraction and best of all the lines are normally short.
A few streets away on Clancy Street is the live show the Blues Brothers. The brothers play some of the hit tunes from the famous film and dance around in the street this is definitely not to be missed; one of the best lives shows if not a little short.
At the top of the street is the recently built Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster which I have not ridden on as our family tend not to like roller coasters, but the ride is supposed to be truly superb as it plunges into total darkness, flies through fire balls and an army of Mummy Warriors!
Next you move onto the San Francisco area where the Earthquake ride is located, this ride has been there since the park was built and though old is still definitely worth a visit, you learn how the original special effects were done and culminates with a journey on the subway train in New York with a few surprises.
Further along is the ever brilliant Jaws ride where you take a boat ride around the shore of Amity where there has been no signs of the Great White for many years, well, yep you guessed it, Jaws appears just as you are beginning and attacks your boat, the tour guides on this ride as really good and really ham this ride up, but beware you could get wet, this is yet another very enjoyable ride.
Fear factor live is next on your list to visit this is a live show taken from one of Americas top hit TV shows where contestants are chosen from real people visiting the parks, they don some protective gear and have to compete a number of tasks against each other in order to win, not for the squeamish as some tasks can involve eating insects etc YUK
A fantastic show, and great fun for all the family.
