What’s so great about Epcot 1
Epcot still has to be my favourite Disney park of all time in many ways I cannot describe why I still like it the best maybe its because I can still remember it been shown on Newsround as a child when It was being built or maybe it’s just the sight of mothership earth that makes you realise you have arrived in Disney.
I like to travel to Epcot for the evening via the monorail system, Epcot in the evening is really the best time to see it definitely for the fireworks show and the trip around the world showcase in the evening is really special.
So you have arrived at Epcot well straight away you notice this huge golf ball type structure well this is Spaceship Earth, this is the Icon you will recognise from Epcot but what is it? Well as you walk towards it you will see a walkway entering this huge structure
If it’s not too busy and the queues are not too big then this is a great way to introduce yourself to Epcot, you enter a moving ride with a carriage and your ride starts to climb to the top of the globe, the main theme of starship earth is communication throughout mankind’s existence.
So it starts with the early cave man discovering fire and learning to speak and how they drew pictures on the caves of the walls and continues through history through the ancient Greeks and the roman empire and how each of these civilizations added to communications.
Soon it’s the time of the telegraph in the west of America and the printing presses of the early books a time which I found particularly interesting soon it’s on to modern technology like the internet, video conferencing, mobile phones etc.
It’s funny but when I first visited Epcot and spaceship Earth many years ago a number of the technologies were just dreams of what could be possible in the future like video conferencing, mobile phones and indeed the internet, they had not yet existed in normally daily life.
Long distance telephone calls were difficult and expensive now we can all use skype or similar, amazing how whoever built the original show had such vision but then again many of Walt Disney’s own personal ideas were very advanced for the times within which he lived.
