What to pack for your villa holiday
A holiday in a villa is slightly different to one in a hotel.
When you have a holiday in a self catering villa as opposed to a hotel, you will need to think differently. Your first stop will be to the supermarket to stock up on staples at least for breakfasts and drinks.
Before you leave the UK, remember you will need a few swing bin liners, some dishwasher tablets and some washing powder or tablets. Obviously you can buy all these in Florida, but the packages are enormous and you will not need all that much of each item so why not take some from home. Do not take liquids though, it would be disastrous if they leaked. I always take a packet of my favourite Earl Grey tea bags – very hard to find in America and they do not taste the same if I do find them as they are made under license in the US although they may have Twinings on the label. Definitely take your own favourite brand.
Even if your villa advertises that they supply pool towels, you may still wish to take towels for use at the many water theme parks in Orlando.
American No-Ad sun block is just as good as any you can buy in the UK and will cost a great deal less than in the UK. However if you prefer to use a brand like Ultra Sun or Riemanns P20 that you only apply once for the whole day, then that is best bought either in the UK or at the airport as these are not available in the US.
If you do not have any particular preference for shower gels and shampoos or any other toiletries, then they can be bought quite cheaply in America to save packing them.
Some medications, for example, Zovirex are only available by prescription so if you are prone to cold sores take some with you. Remember you are going to the land of vitamins so no need to take them with you – in fact buy plenty to bring home, they are much cheaper.
If you are taking an infant with you, you will need to take your own bed linen for the cot as it is illegal for villa owners to supply bed linen for cots. (A strange rule but one we have to abide by).
Finally, remember that you will not need to take so many clothes as you will have a washing machine and tumble dryer in your villa.
Have a wonderful holiday and I hope these few tips will make life a bit easier for you.
