Winter Breaks in Florida
I am as mystified as the majority of people on the subject of Global Warming, but one thing I do know is that the further north you live in America, the colder it gets.
It follows then that to recharge the batteries in the warm sunshine, a visit to the south is the obvious solution. And it doesn' t come any further South than Florida. In a minute, we' ll look at what' s occurring here in Florida to entice you away from the potentially depressing repetition of cold, snow, sleet, rain, wind and the shrouding, perpetual greyness.
Our first concern however, is where to stay? A hotel can offer a room large enough for a family of four, provided privacy is not an issue. Otherwise, it' s two rooms. A larger party obviously requires more space and rooms, raising the cost. Coffee makers, fridges (perhaps) and microwaves (perhaps) can' t replace a kitchen, so eating in a restaurant is forced upon you as the only option. A family get-together cramped into a hotel room, elbow to elbow, isn' t worth the effort of leaving your chilly home.
Alternatively, booking a vacation home ranging from a three to a seven bedroom family home allows a carefree, stress free break for a couple, small family, or a large reunion. Kitchens and Bar B Qs, spacious family rooms, private pools and game rooms mean that eating and entertainment are on the doorstep, cutting the expense of your vacation dramatically as well as adding to the enjoyment. Prices are a lot more cost effective than you might think and most Americans who try a vacation home as an alternative to a hotel realise its' benefits immediately.
So, what' s on the agenda for the winter months in Florida? The Theme Parks are the obvious attraction, and why not? Age is unimportant, from three to ninety three, I defy anybody not to be mesmerised and enthralled by what' s on offer. Disney, Universal, Sea World, Busch Gardens et al have something for everyone, including such new features as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and The Simpsons at Universal, the American Idol Experience at Disney' s Hollywood Studios and Jungala at Busch Gardens.
Not to be taken literally, there appears to be a golf course on every street corner. In fact, there are over 150 within an hour' s drive of Orlando, ranging from Championship Class quality courses to par 3 mini pitch and putts. Water hazards do not include rain and soggy greens but are restricted to sparkling crystal blue lakes which are home to golf loving alligators. As opposed to alligators who love golfers.
Everybody has been privileged to witness a Shuttle Launch from Kennedy Space Center. You haven' t? Well, here' s your chance. Your last chance, in fact. 2011 sees the final missions of the magnificent Shuttles, Discovery and Endeavor. Don' t be one of the few never to experience the emotion at that moment of lift off. Believe me, words cannot describe it. In a vacation villa, your family is a mere sixty minutes drive away.
Or you can visit Floridas beautiful beaches at Clearwater, St. Petersburg on the West Coast or Cocoa on the East, the oldest city in America at St. Augustine or slightly further away, the Everglades and Miami or Fort Lauderdale.
Florida has so much to offer outside the theme parks and the comfort of a vacation home as your base is the best way of treating yourself and your family to a well deserved break in the warm Florida sunshine.
