Winter Park 2
You have now seen the Morse Museum and had a look round the town, the next thing to do is what Winter Park is renowned for. Drive or walk up Park Avenue and turn left down Morse Blvd. Keep going down Morse until you reach the end and park in one of the public spaces provided you will then be near to the edge of Lake Virginia itself. Stand there for a few moments and close your eyes and imagine how it was a hundred or more years ago. It would have been full of Victorian hotels but now sadly replaced with modern blocks. Fantastic views over the lake but not quite the same what used to be. Here will find the boat docks which are the boarding point for the historic Scenic Cruises which have been running from here for over a century. For over 50 years, Winter Park´s world famous Scenic Boat Tour has given enjoyment to thousands. The relaxing, narrated, one hour cruise through the beautiful lakes and canals of historic Winter Park makes it a must on every person´s list. It´s really the only way to see the true beauty of Winter Park which includes Rollins College, Kraft Azalea Gardens, Isle of Sicily, tropical birds, plants, flowers and magnificent mansions. Climb aboard an excursion boat and let your ' Skipper' fascinate you for one hour as you cruise through beautiful lakes and canals for 12 miles. Scenic Boat Tour is not to be missed!
From the boat you have views of the homes of the rich and some famous, take a view photos to show your friends back home. The size of some of these homes, all overlooking the different lakes, is amazing, there are some that have boat houses bigger than our homes back home. the boats make their way around each of the three lakes and the canals which join them. The way some people live ! This is a boat trip that you should not miss. The boatman is so knowledgeable and tells you the history of the houses, Rollins College and Winter Park itself. Timing can be all important, to be sure of the trip running go in the Summer or Autumn as in the Winter and Spring the water level can be low. The first time we did this there was quite a wind blowing and although it was very sunny it was cold on the water so again choose your time carefully.
