Florida Guide > Dining
We had spent a wonderful day on Madeira Beach and were hungry. So we asked round and were directed to Guppy's. So off we went - we had a look at the tempting salads; chicken, sashimi tuna and grilled shrimp but we decided that we needed something more substantial to sustain us on the drive back to our vacation villa in Davenport. One of the guys is a die hard steak man. There was Filet Mignon, New York Strip or Rodeo Steak with an avocado sauce. However, they had a 6 ounce filet with a lobster tail so a good decision was made. Us girls like our seafood so looked first at the Coconut Shrimp, always a good choice and this came with Orange Blossom Honey Marmalade. On the other hand, I often go for crab cakes and they say theirs are the best in town. The decision was almost too hard; do you find that you lust over what the other person has ordered? In the end, one of us had Shrimp Saute; does not sound that exciting but this version came with jumbo shrimp, feta cheese, olives, sun-dried tomatoes all in a lemon butter (is your mouth watering? )
I always like to try a restaurants specialities and their's is Guppy's Seafood Bowl. This had shrimp, scallops, mussels and fish in a saffron broth. Yum.
The main courses seemed a little expensive until we realised that along with our meal came a caeser salad, fresh baked bread, and veggies. Also your choice of coleslaw, garlic potatoes, wild rice or chips (go for the garlic potatoes) You can also choose from 22 small plates if you are not too hungry or you need a starter (we did not)
Look out for special offers when we were there the following was on offer: If you can arrive between 4 p. m. and 5. 15 p. m. there is a Daily special and a B. O. G. O. F. F on drinks.
There is also a daily dinner special from 4 p. m. and on our visit, it was Chicken Palm Beach with sautéed chicken breast with crab meat and oyster mushrooms all in a white wine sauce.
Guppy's is open from 11. 30 a. m. to 10 p. m. from sunday to Thursday and 11. 30 a. m. to 10. 30 p. m on Friday and Saturday.
