Applebees on Highway 27
Please find my review of Applebees at Berry Town centre on Highway 27 for 29/04/07 at around 7pm.
This is a new restaurant and at the time had only been open about 7 weeks.
It reminds me of a Bennighans (which we liked! ) and also a TGI Fridays; offering a similar style of menu.
Our server (Sara) was very chatty and welcoming, everything looked good (the menu not her! ) and we were expecting a great meal.
The starter arrived promptly and was basically bread with salsa and a funny “new” cheese; it was unusual but actually quite tasty.
They had a special on wine which was 2 for 1 (only on glass fulls though, not bottles unfortunately! ); so we went for this. Sue was driving and as I ended up having 2 glasses in reality I had 3; what a terrible shame.
Sue’s order of chicken, broccoli (yuck! ) and pasta arrived ahead of my steak; I was told about 5 minutes – not a problem.
10 minutes later my steak turns up but the mash potato is stone cold; probably due to waiting for the steak and not under a heat lamp.
Anyway! , the steak was ok – but nothing next to the God like Manny’s!
By the time a hot mash arrives Sue has finished and I have eaten my steak; don’t really fancy mash spud on its own! ! ?
The waitress gets more upset than we do!
Without even complaining the manageress comes over and tells us both main meals have been removed from the bill.
Whilst this sounds great, we felt really bad. Disappointment for us and the waitress being almost in tears made us get up and go in a great hurry.
As we felt terrible I left a good tip for her (it wasn’t her fault after all). The total bill after deductions was around US$25.
I really had high hopes for Applebees and I know other people enjoy it. I am putting it down to being only open a short while and having a few teething problems. Next time we are over we will visit it, but I shall not have steak as I know it won’t be up to scratch.
Sorry about raving about steak in almost every review but that and curry are the two foods which I would gladly give up living for!
As a side note, we have yet to find a proper authentic Indian restaurant – I mean *real* Indian food; we have been to Goa so the steaks (pun not intended would you believe! ) are high…
