FISHING EXCURSIONS AT WALT DISNEY WORLD
We are not really a fishing family but were fascinated when a family friend told us what was on offer at Walt Disney World.
Although the Fishing Excursions appear quite expensive my friend assures me that if there is a family interest in fishing they are most enjoyable, in fact his family have included an excursion on their last two trips to Florida.
Family or Party (for 5 people) fishing excursions are available from the following WDW marinas:
Coronado Springs Resort
Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Old Key West
Port Orleans Resort
Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa
Yacht Club Resort
Downtown Disney Marketplace
They take place at 7 am, 10 am and 1. 30pm and cost approx $200. You will need to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to departure time. Extended excursions may be arranged at an extra cost.
There are no evening excursions and the excursions may be cancelled due to inclement weather. You are not allowed to bring your own food, beverage, or coolers.
The excursion is a two-hour private catch-and-release fishing excursion in the lakes of the Walt Disney World Resort for up to five people and this includes:

one-year membership in BASS, the world’ s largest fishing organization (membership includes 11 issues of Bassmaster Magazine; a membership pack with a personalized membership card, members-only, an embroidered patch and member handbook; free Gear Giveaways; a Boat Theft Reward; information on local BASS chapters; eligibility to compete in national events; and other special discounts and benefits). Apparently this package is quite something for fishing enthusiasts.
On my friends first trip they caught 22 bass all weighing 4 pounds or more with the largest being about 8 pounds. The next time they caught 17 bass again all over 4 pounds, the highlight was for his daughter who was delighted with her 6lb fish.
Apparently there are also Junior Fishing Excursions that is a one-hour long excursion available for children ages 6-12 and cost approx $30.
Pickup is available from the Contemporary Resort, Polynesian Resort, Grand Floridian Resort and Wilderness Lodge & Fort Wilderness Campground.
Last year the Caribbean Beach Resort started two-hour private catch-and-release fishing excursions on Barefoot Bay at Disney’ s Caribbean Beach Resort. Excursions will be aboard tournament-style Nitro bass boats that can accommodate one or two guests. Cost is $200 for morning excursions; $230 for those later in the day. Excursions include use of the boat, guide and equipment for one or two guests. As with the other excursion you cannot bring your won food, drink or coolers.
For those interested in Dockside fishing this can be found at Port Orleans Riverside Ol’ Man Island and Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds
This is catch-and-release cane pole fishing and you do not have to make advance reservations. The hours are 7 a. m. - 3 p. m. and can vary seasonally.
The cost for Cane Pole & Worms is $4/hour or you can have Family Fishing for $12. 50/hour (up to 6 people).
I hope any of you that enjoy fishing have a good time whether you go on an excursion of just do some pole fishing.
