HISTORIC DOWNTOWN KISSIMME AND LAKEFRONT
If you want to experience the “real” Florida do not miss a visit to Historic Downtown Kissimmee and the most spectacular lake front
Situated on the Orange Blossom Trail it is easy to see its cattle rustling beginnings from the many bright murals in the town that have been created by a local artist.It has a mixture of unusual shops and cafes and interesting municipal buildings.Particularly noted for the antique shops and the real southern cooking in the restaurants It also boasts the oldest working courthouse in Florida The area has been subject to a big regeneration programme that has restored and retained its cow town heritage beautifully.
The population has grown from around 7000 in the seventies to over 50000 today,all drawn to this area for its unique charm
Lakefront is not to be missed :the park offers walking trails, playgrounds, volleyball and basketball courts, picnic areas, BBQ grills and boating You will also see many and varied wildlife as you wander round.
Through the year free concerts are held here and they are well worth attending As well as great music there are vendors and food and drink in a lovely setting Christmas and the 4th of July are particularly well done there
There is also great fishing to be enjoyed with lots of Bass and Black Crappie A six-lane boat ramp with a floating courtesy dock is located on Lakeshore Blvd. From the intersection of Highway 192 and Highway 441/17-92 in Kissimmee, travel south on Main Street 0.6 mile to Monument Avenue. Turn left onto Monument Avenue and follow to Lakeshore Blvd. Turn right on Lakeshore and follow 0.3 miles to ramp on left. Pier and bank fishing is allowed. A marina is located approximately 0.2 miles north of ramp.
Most fridays there is a farmers market in Toho Square with lots of fresh fruit and veg from local suppliers.This runs from 7am til 1.30 This makes it the perfect day to visit.Go to the farmers market in the morning,have a stroll round the town,study all the fabulous choices of eating places for lunch and off to the lakefront for the afternoon.
Art lovers will enjoy a visit to Gallery One,a co op of 30 artists who offer art in its many styles and forms (open tuesday to saturday 10am til 6pm tel. 407 944 0011 for more details)
You will find this area a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks and take home some great photos and wonderful memories!
