Longhorn Steakhouse
On our last visit to Florida at Easter 2009, we were delighted to see that a new Longhorn Steakhouse had just opened, situated off highway 192, quite close to our vacation home on highway 27. We have previously eaten at a Longhorn Steakhouse and had some fabulous meals there, but unfortunately the one that we usually go to is located around a 30 minute drive from our place. The new Longhorn restaurant is now no more than 10 minutes drive away.
When we visited, the new Longhorn had only been open for a couple of weeks, and we expected there to be teething problems with new staff, etc but we were pleasantly surprised at the service that we received. After some initial confusion over which waiter was allocated to our table, which resulted in a 15 minute wait before getting any service at all, we then received fantastic service from our very attentive waiter and enjoyed some very tasty food. They even gave us a complimentary starter to make up for the wait.
The food, as you would expect, is predominantly aimed at the meat eater, with tasty steaks, chicken, ribs and burgers and some seafood. The starters are meant for sharing and there is a good variety from which to choose. We had our boys’ favourites, Firecracker Chicken Wraps, which are tortillas stuffed with spicy grilled chicken and cheese and our complimentary starter was the crispy chicken trio (battered chicken with three tasty dips, delicious! ). They also have a Ranch House Chilli starter, which will be on our list for next time as it has been recommended to us by one of our friends. One of our boys chose the baby-back ribs for main course and declared them even better than Manny’s (which is a real compliment), I had a juicy steak with jacket potato, other half went for a cheeseburger and fries and our eldest son had Parmesan Crusted Chicken with mashed potato. All meals were declared brilliant and we even left a little room to share two key lime pies between the four of us. This pie is the best we have tasted anywhere and finished off the meal perfectly.
