Popeye and Blutos Raft Ride
Popeye and Bluto’s Raft Ride at Universal Islands of Adventure Florida
Do you want to get wet? No, I mean really, really wet. This ride is the most fun that you can ever experience, the rafts sit around ten people who strap in with lap seat belts before the raft is released, beware, put all cameras, shoes, wallets, purses and all items of value in the central dry zone, otherwise they will get soaked too.
The ride is held round a revolving platform in order to space the barges, and then away you go, first down a five foot or so drop into a maelstrom of churning water, the barge bouncing off the side and spinning so that everyone gets their share of the water coming over the sides of the barge, past a galleon which is set high up with water cannons on it so that people can spot anyone they know and wet them some more, or, wet people they don’t know, it’s all part of the fun. Down some more smaller but equally as wet drops trying to dodge the automatically operated water cannons on the way, through a waterfall which gets every one and on, spinning, dropping and getting wetter and wetter.
Around the bend and under the tunnel and then you come to Bluto’s barge lift, a lift of perhaps some twenty feet on a wooden carrier belt with various wetting implements en route. A cannon which disgorges probably around twenty gallons of water, just as your barge passes, several more water cannons spraying willy nilly as you rise, and then another five foot or so drop and on to the fastest part of the ride, and guess what, yes, you got it, a lot more wetness.
Finally, the ride returns to the revolving carousel for you to get off absolutely wringing wet, but during the ride, you have had one of the biggest laughs that you could get, not only in getting so wet yourself, but watching the faces of the other people who perhaps have not experienced either this ride or this level of wetness before.
Would we recommend the ride? you bet we would, do we ride it ourselves? Every time we are in Islands of Adventure we make a beeline for it but we would recommend that you take a towel and a change of clothing, and don’t go on it in denim, denim takes ages to dry out.
In summary then, one of the best rides that I have ever been on and I would recommend you to try it for yourself.
