Ragland Road Irish Pub at Disney Springs

I recently decided to try out the Ragland Road Irish pub and restaurant in Disney Springs which used to be known as Downtown Disney. I am reliably informed that it is well known for its authentic atmosphere and delicious, modern twist on Irish food. And also that the nightly live music and dancing makes it one of the best values in all of Disney so I decided to check it out.

We arrived and checked in at the podium, we were ushered through the main dining room, around the bar to the left, and into the Raglan Room. The room is a cosy spot with lower ceilings than the main dining room. A partition separated the room from the rest of the pub for the dinner.

The first thing I noticed was all the wood inside the pub, I am reliably informed that many elements of this pub, including the bar, were hand-crafted from hardwoods in Ireland and sent to the United States.

The venue is huge by Irish-pub standards, but the dark polished-wood panelling, as well as the snugs preserves the feel of the traditional pub. The pentagonal main room sits beneath an impressive dome. In the middle of the room is a tall, table like platform accessible to Celtic dancers via a permanently attached short staircase. A modest bandstand is situated along the wall in front of a large pseudo-hearth.

But enough about the décor and onto the food and what we ordered for starters, our appetizer was the Dalkey Duo, a batter-fried cocktail sausages with a mustard dipping sauce, it was delicious.

Next our Entrée, we decided to try out the House Speciality which is called Kevin’s Heavenly Ham which is glazed loin of bacon with cabbage and potatoes. Kevin is one of the owners and his name is Kevin Dundon who is apparently a celebrity chef back in Ireland and is the star of the Irish reality shows Guerrilla Gourmet and Heat as well as Kevin Dundon’s Modern Irish Food on PBS.

I have to say it was possibly one of the nicest Entrée’s I have ever had in Orlando, the ham was so tender and tasty and I wish I could sauté the cabbage and potatoes the way the chef did them.

The entertainment meanwhile came in the form of and Irish folk band that played real Celtic music and they were also superb, their music was so soothing while we had out meal, you almost forgot that you were in Disney Springs and instead you could have been transported back to Dublin.

Liquid refreshments came in the form of an Irish stout which was perfectly washed down with our meal.

I would thoroughly recommend anybody to try Ragland Road as you will not be disappointed with the food nor the entertainment. I would give it 5 stars.
