Florida Guide > Dining
What is the most memorable meal you have eaten in Florida? Does not have to be the most expensive but the one you could not wait to go back and have again.
Eating out is a big part of your holiday in Florida, the food is good and really reasonable.
When we went in the early days there were not many eating places in the parks area so we mainly ate there. Nothing stands out there, I am afraid.
30 years ago, before there was so much to do in the parks area, we would have a third week at the coast and I remember a memorable meal at Johnny Leverocks. I can tell you exactly what I had; crab stuffed flounder with baked potato and a salad and my first Key Lime Pie. The location added to the enjoyment as it was built right over water.
The next memory I have is of a wonderful lobster pasta dish in a lemon sauce. This was enjoyed at Macaroni Grill (such a dull sounding name but great food) The only thing that spoiled this meal was that we were eating at a peak time and the ambience was a little too noisy.
We went into a Cracker Barrel as soon as they appeared locally and I had what I think was called a Fish Platter with an assortment of fish which came with many sides.
The next meal I remembered was at Red Lobster. We went with good friends and I ordered a Seafood Special which had them all having food envy when it appeared. We sat outside on a warm night and it was perfect.
Breakfast out in Florida is always on the cards and both Mimis and Perkins produce a good one. The Eggs Benedict at Perkins are perfect and they include a giant muffin at Mimis. Trust me, you will not be able to eat it all - take it home for later. The car park at Crackerbarrel is always full at breakfast and that is good too.
We had a memorable Clam Chowder at a café on the Atlantic Coast once. Crammed with clams and the perfect balance of flavours. A very simple place but everything home made. The roll that we ordered with the soup was awesome and we wished we could have tried more but we were saving our appetite for dinner. I wish I could remember what it was called but it was on the road between Daytona and St Augustine.
Of course, over the years we have enjoyed many great meals on wonderful holidays but these were the ones that first sprung to mind so they must have been good.
