The Town of Celebration (9)
When holidaying in Orlando most people will naturally think of visiting the theme parks or Kennedy Space Centre, they will take in a show or maybe do some shopping.
However if you have a few hours spare amidst all the hubbub, then we would strongly recommend that you use that time to visit the town of Celebration which is just along the192, shortly after the I4 junction.
In Celebration you will find a taste of Floridian life as you imagine it should be – beautiful large houses with white picket fences and a big veranda. If you visit at special times such as Halloween and Christmas you will find that many of the house owners take a great deal of effort in dressing up the outsides of their house, and this adds to the wonderful friendly feel of the town making it well worth the effort of strolling around the houses.
In the main town area itself you will find that this older character is maintained throughout with delightful shops, offices and eateries, which lead down to a lake by the side of which is an area where you can walk, or sit down in one of the large wooden rocking chairs and soak up some sun while watching the world go by – very relaxing indeed.
You will find some far more diverse goods being sold in many of the shops and it is nice to find shops selling something different to the same old designer goods, sunglasses and electronics. These shops can be a little more expensive but they are well worth browsing around.
If you are able to spend lunchtime at Celebration, then you will be rewarded with an excellent choice of good quality places to eat. Our own personal recommendation would be for “The MarketPlace Café” where we enjoyed lovely burgers with fries covered in cheese and bacon and accompanied by the best coleslaw that we have ever eaten as well as divine chocolate milkshakes – this was the easy winner of our “best meal of the week” award.
After eating it is nice to take a stroll around the lakes in order to enjoy a little more of the scenery and take in some good views of the town from the other side of the lakes. To start the walk you can go past the Celebration Hotel which is an impressive building very much in character with the rest of the town (and where you can enjoy a luxurious, if rather pricey, afternoon tea). The lakes do not cover a huge area and have solid and wide paths, so they are suitable for most people to walk around.
