Air Boat Adventures in Orlando.
At the very end of Poinciana Boulevard, a long way past Horse World is The Boggy Creek Airboat rides location.
We arrived to explore the lake on an airboat, having never done this before, one sunny August afternoon.
We enjoyed our half hour trip on the lake and saw lots of different plants and wildlife, including turtles and some strange looking insects and birds in their own breathtakingly beautiful natural environment. We did see an alligator on our trip around the lake, but only just, and it was being extremely shy.
Our boat guide advised that if we wanted to see more of the gators, we should think about coming back on a night trip. We were also advised that visitors are more likely to see more gators during the day, in April, as this is their breeding season.
So, on one of the following evenings we ventured down to The Boggy Creek Airboat location again.
This time instead of being dressed in shorts and T-shirts we dressed in long trousers and warm jackets. On this particular evening, it was quite cloudy and a weather front was being checked to ensure our trip would be safe to go ahead.
A storm was expected which was being tracked by satellite. After waiting for the storm to pass, much to our delight we were advised the evening trip would be able to go ahead.
We were then provided with life vests, hearing protection and safety glasses.
This Airboat Tour is for those who want to go to the farthest extremes in adventure and thrills and are not afraid of the dark. Our airboat captain was great fun as we searched the thrilling swamps for the intimidating Florida Alligator.
We quickly realised the reason that we had been given safety glasses was due to the abundance of insects out on the lake that dark evening.
The difference between the trip at night and during the day was vast. We toured the lake with the captain navigating the boat to the locations he expected Gators to be hiding.
We were extremely pleased that the Gators on this evening trip were far from shy. We Watched many glide across the marsh seeking their next prey and our boat was taken extremely close alongside them.
It was a really thrilling experience and one that we could only have hoped to have.
