Cirque du Soleil, Orlando. La Nouba
Staying at our villa last year, we wondered how to celebrate our Mum & Dad’s 50th Wedding Anniversary. There is quite a wide age range in the family so finding something special that would appeal to a 7-year-old and a 76-year-old was quite a challenge! The fact that our father is not particularly keen on sitting in theatres and our 12 year old boy prefers to kick a football around for entertainment, did not help matters!
We had heard of various shows on offer, including many of the dinner shows, which we believe can be good fun but often the food is not brilliant. Having seen several of the Disney shows in the parks we decided to give the La Nouba show from the world famous Cirque Du Soleil Company a go! We thought the price was a little on the high side, but decided that as Disney always provide quality entertainment and that, after all, it was a special anniversary it was worth splashing out! (The tickets start at $39 + tax for children through to $85 + tax for the best seats)
Boy – were we in for the treat of our lives!! From the moment it began, when the performers came out into the auditorium the colourful costumes, dancing, acrobatics and music were phenomenal. It’s an amazing blend of circus, theatre, singing – in fact all types of performing art. With so much entertainment going on, it was difficult to absorb it all in just one show – we could have returned again and again and noticed something different each time. From Chinese acrobats to trampolining strong men, opera singing cleaners to high-wire bike riding; every single second of the show was absolutely amazing!
The show name La Nouba originates from the French phrase "faire la nouba," which means to party, to live it up and the performers were certainly doing that! The show features two groups of characters the colourful circus people and the monochromatic & serious urbanites. It is totally surreal but extremely addictive! It is very difficult to describe the atmosphere and entertainment given to us that evening but sufficed to say, no one will ever forget this special treat!
We would recommend the experience to everyone, no matter if you are holidaying with a family or on you own – just be prepared to want to go back for more next year. La Nouba can be seen nowhere else in the world & the show is very popular, so it's a good idea to have your tickets in advance — though its worth trying for seats available at the last minute. Just whatever you do, don’t miss it!!!!
